Hi Bogdan, I noticed your posts here and thought I might mention a couple of things with ExiftoolGUI that you might like to look into at some point.

They are not bugs as such but can cause a little confusion for users

When deleting individual keywords, they can only be deleted in exactly the way they were entered seemingly, so if you enter two keywords at once separated by a comma, eg. 'landscape, mountains' then you can only delete 'landscape, mountains ' and not 'mountains' or 'landscape' individually.

This prevents users from entering several keywords at once, as it appears comma delimited lists are not regarded as separate keywords when entered into the xmp /iptc fields in this way.

Just thought it might be useful to fix this to allow easier entry of keywords and categories.

This is actually an exiftool "feature". People occasionally want a keyword to contain a comma (ie. for name of people, like "Harvey, Phil"), so this is allowed. But unfortunately the default list separator is a comma, so you can't tell the difference in the output between two keywords and a keyword with a comma unless you change the default separator.

As you have noticed, whatever you type into Keywords tab, it is treated as "single" keyword. If user enters "single" keyword, which contain comma(s), then this may (and usually does) cause troubles when trying to change/remove that particular keyword.
I have hesitated a long time before implementing "keywording", and finally decided for "basic" approach -which should (at least) allow some keyword editing. Right now, I don't think to make improvements in this regard, as this would not only exceed GUI's main purpose, but would also require a lot of work (to do it "right").
My personal opinion (from visiting various forums)... Many are not aware of meaning of term "keyword" and it's usage.. Basically, Keyword entry should contain single "keyword" -not "keystatement". And then, Adobe implemented "hierarchical" keywording... which is, IMO, not only useless, but also makes maintaining (reorganizing, transferring, etc.) keywords later, much more difficult.

Hi Bogdan, I Understand, and also see the reasons given by Phil on this subject. I've discovered the Lightroom Hierarchical keyword field just today and how LR adds it to any xmp-dc:subject it finds. This is a pain so I am making sure I delete it in my processes. I agree that keywording should really be single keywords but we all have our preferences, unfortunately when it comes down to delimiters, as is usual with databases it would be a solution to be able to change the defaults to allow commas if you need them. Keywording is a laborious process and anything that can make it easier to change, especially when you're cleaning up or have made some mistakes, is worth looking into. However, this is really why I want to use the best app for keywording and that for me is LR because it handles multiple selections gracefully marking all non-common keywords with a *. The keywording problem as in the GUI is probably not worth the amount of work it would take. I agree. regards Louis

I understand that we have different preferences and those often depend on how we use the keyword fields. To me the idea of name reversal in a keyword field doesn't make a great deal of sense because the field is primarily for the purpose of searching, unlike a database where you might want a table to list surnames first.

Still it's no big deal for me as I will do most of my keywording in LR or Acdsee which thanks to Exiftools can be made to work together.
