The new version of ExifToolGUI
Hello - as the creator of the GUI does not have a dedicated forum (understandably really), I shall post my thanks here for the new version which accepts a path parameter; this has made a great increase in usability to what was already an indispensable tool for me. Thank you Bogdan (I hope I have the name correct).

I did try a little experiment with the shortcut I had set up for an image folder, and added a filename. Sure enough the folder was opened plus the details of the specified image. So, encouraged by this, I turned to Faststone Image Viewer (more Freeware that I use a lot), went into "Settings" and specified ExifToolGUI as an "external program" with "filename" as a parameter (this also includes the path). It worked like a dream! I can now be browsing images in FIV and with one key (actually a double key - Alt + a number) I get access to the complete metadata, which I can also update. This also works with RAW files, although as a Sony user I cannot update them - ho-hum. This is just great! Thank you Bogdan, and Phil of course, for enormously helping my workflow.

Just wanted a more useful name, or rather subject title, for my recent post "The new version of ExifToolGUI", which I cannot, of course, edit. I hope that it may be found more easily by users of Faststone and the GUI, and that the information may be of use to someone who may wish to combine the two.

I appreciate both ExifTool and ExifToolGUI very much and use them all the time.
There is one suggestion that I'd like to make: implement an option for setting the DateTimeOriginal tag for a bunch of files simultaneously, but with a specifiable relative offset for each file.
That way, one could set, say 10 images with, say 1 minute offset for a series of pictures with messed up metadata.
The only tool known to me that does this is EXIFER, but it is not maintained anymore.

Just to confirm if I understand... There may be 10 (or any number of) image files. Now, you would like to have, that value of DateTimeOriginal would be increased for each file by 1 minute?
Ok, one file (among them) is first, containing some starting value... what is the criteria for each next file, where DateTime should be increased? As listed in directory (by filename)?
I'm sure, this can be done with Exiftool... but somehow doesn't fit into GUI purpose: the point (I see) is to restore/set "correct" DateTime values with ease, when somethig went wrong.
What I'm tying to say is, the idea behind GUI is, to have only basic, most often needed things, used by most users -with main goal, to keep GUI simple.
As your case is a bit "special", I encourage you to try Exiftool directly. I'm sure, if needed, Phil will help you finding best solution.
I hope, you don't feel dissapointed...

this was just a suggestion as feel this is an often needed thing, if you notice that all images in a shooting lost their capture time, Then it is a pretty good approximation to set them 1 min. or 10 sec. or whatever apart. Exifer is still in use - even though not maintained for years - because of this feature.
For you it is easy to implement, you just need another mask for the incremental time with ..days, hours, minutes an seconds in the same dialog. That's it (well, you need to add that time-shift for each image...)
I am sure exiftool can do it, it can do most everything. However the ease with which you can sort according file names (or whatever) in ExifToolGUI and the visual feedback for the sequence would be just great.
Again, this was just a suggestion.

From an exiftool perspective, implementing this type of functionality would be very difficult because the order in which exiftool processes the files is not specified. I suppose the only way to do this would be to sort the filenames alphabetically before processing, but currently exiftool doesn't have a feature like this.

There is a natural ordering in the GUI, the sequence of files on the screen!
