I wanted to build an awesome place for people to discuss module specific issues, but I don't have any more time for this, and there are much better places to discuss Perl-related issues. I'd recommend asking your question on Stack Overflow or on Perl Monks.

Interesting idea, but I think that just setting the buffer size to 8k is sufficient. This size was never really optimized when I decided on 64k originally, and now that we've done this testing I'm happy with 8k. However, your idea remains a possibility for the future if required.
