Here's the e-mail I received from the author: Unfortunately, that's a limitation in the underlying LANMAN protocol that Authen::SMB uses. If you're authenticating against Windows 2003, perhaps you can use LDAP against ADS instead? Or, use Authen::PAM combined with samba/winbind. Best, -- Patrick Michael Kane
