I wanted to build an awesome place for people to discuss module specific issues, but I don't have any more time for this, and there are much better places to discuss Perl-related issues. I'd recommend asking your question on Stack Overflow or on Perl Monks.
If you are looking for a Perl tutorial or Perl-related news, I hope these links will serve you well.

Upgrade to newest version renders cpan unusable.
'allo, Having upgraded to cpan version 1.98, I find that my usage is encumbered by excessive amounts of disk utilization, especially at startup when it tries to read the authors and modules files out of my home directory. This can take up to 25 minutes to complete. The files are there but, there seems to be some processing happening that is taking longer than usual. I was running version 1.6 before and it went throught the same startup process but, now it is taking much longer to complete. I upgraded cpan with the following command (from bash): % cpan install Bundle::CPAN which was painful enough. As far as I can tell, cpan is working fine. What I want to know is the reason it is performing so slowly and if it can be accelerated. much thanx, mephtu
